I used to think because I had thick, black eyebrows, that I didn't need to fill them in, or define them. Now, looking back at pictures of me a few years back, I look at my eyebrows and think to myself, why?! I always had to pluck my eyebrows, thanks to my Italian heritage, and I think we're all guilty of over-plucking, especially in the early 2000's. After I graduated high school, I started getting my eyebrows waxed, and the beautician told me that I needed to really let them grow, so I did. I looked like Ernie from Sesame Street, but then when I went to my next appointment, she was actually able to shape them. It took a while for me to adjust to my newly thick brows, but now I absolutely love them!
I was reading a blog at the time, called MaskCara and I noticed whenever she did a makeover on someone, she always filled in their brow. Her weapon of choice was an angled brush, and MAC eyeshadow in the shade Brun. I ordered Brun, and began filling in my brows with a Real Techniques angled eyeshadow brush. I started to see the difference, and how it really made my whole face. I finally realised just how important eyebrows are to your whole face. Have you ever seen those articles, like 15 celebrities without their eyebrows! and noticed just how strange they look? Like little aliens.
Below are my current four favourite eyebrow products that I use.
First off we have the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow, along with the Anastasia Beverly Hills duo brush #12. I picked these up at Sephora. but you can purchase them from BeautyBay.com, direct from the Anastasia Beverly Hills website, and some local shopping centres have brow bars which sell the Anastasia products. The shade I have is Chocolate, which I feel may be a little to warm for my brows, and should have gone a more ash-y colour.
To apply this, first I use the spooly end of the brush and comb through my brows in an upward, then outward way. I then use the angled brush to pick up a small amount of product, you can see on the edges of the pot where I have picked up too much, and had to wipe it off. I tend to start on the bottom of my eyebrow, towards the start of the brow, as I have a little area where the hair refuses to grow. I kind of just draw a line along the bottom, and work my way towards the arch. I then draw another line in the middle of my eyebrow tail, and take it down to extend my eyebrow. I then get a little more on my brush and start to fill in the middle of my brow, and begin filling in the start of my brow, but in an upwards motion. I then take the spooly end of the brush, and brush through my brows to blend the product in. Depending on how serious you want your brows to be, some people take concealer and a brush, and then outline the brows to give a really defined look. Unless I am going out to a party, dancing, or something like a wedding, I don't ever really do that. Mainly because I am usually running late!
I really like this product, as I find it tends to really last all day. For some reason I always rub my hands over my face, and when I was just using the eye shadow, it would all come off.
For my lazier days, or if I'm just heading to the shops, I will use my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz crayon, and a little bit of Benefit Gimmie Brow on top to hold my brows in place.
The Brow Wiz works the same as any eyebrow pencil, bonus points because this one has an inbuilt spooly! I comb out my brows, fill in the sparse areas, comb through again, and then add a coating of Gimmie Brow. This is a tinted eyebrow mascara basically, it also helps make your brows appear thicker. Plus it keeps your hairs where you want them to stay! I used to use this on its own, until the mysterious bald patch appeared, now I always have to use the pencil!
I did try the Maybelline eyebrow 'mascara', but the wand was super weird, and I hated using it. This is my second Gimmie Brow, and it will now be something that I always repurchase. It is also available in a lighter colour.
You can purchase the Gimmie Brow from Myer for $35, or you can also order it from the Benefit US Website for $24usd, they ship internationally for $18.95, free international shipping for orders over $125. So if there is a few things you want to stock up on, or have some friends that want Benefit products, It would probably work out cheaper in the end ordering it online!
Anastasia Beverly Hills products are available direct from her website, or you can purchase the Dipbrow Pomade from Beauty Bay for $25.40 inc free shipping, the Brow Wiz for $26.20 inc free shipping. Unfortunately they don't stock the brush, but you can order that direct from Anastasia Beverly Hills for $18usd. Of course if you are in the USA, you can get all of this from your local Sephora! You lucky people! I'm not sure if Sephora Australia sells this, if anyone has been there and seen these products, let me know in the comments!
I hope this has helped any brow queries you may have had! How do you like to do your brows? What are your go to products? Let me know!
